Finding well-written science books for patrons who do not have science backgrounds is often difficult. But the need for such materials is great, especially in areas where popular interest has spawned a number of general books and the readers want to find out more. The 24 articles in this collection, written by researchers specifically for this book and edited by two prominent marine scientists, provide an intermediate level approach on how marine mammals communicate with one another. The articles cover field and aquarium studies on whale and dolphin communication, explaining the types of studies done, methodology, and conclusions. Detailed bibliographies allow interested readers to go further. A welcome addition to academic and larger public libraries.
