Editorial Reviews

Review
"One of the classics of 20th Century mathematical literature...it covers lucidly and exhaustively both statement and proof of all the standard inequalities of mathematical analysis." New Technical Books

Product Description
This classic of the mathematical literature forms a comprehensive study of the inequalities used throughout mathematics. First published in 1934, it presents clearly and lucidly both the statement and proof of all the standard inequalities of analysis. The authors were well-known for their powers of exposition and made this subject accessible to a wide audience of mathematicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars What ?? Only one review (so far) for this classic?, April 16, 2004
By bal gombak (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews
A well written, classic text written by three larger than life math legends (Hardy, Littlewood, Polya). This is the definitive and monumental text on inequality -- the little angular symbols you see in all fields of mathematics -- from analysis to number theory to topology to combinatorics (i would say all fields of science but I am not a math apologist, mind you, so I would stay with those things I know something about).

5.0 out of 5 stars yes, do buy, August 25, 2007
It's a classic! You know, from where I stand, it seems that a great many people have fallen prey to the notion that the purpose of mathematics is to prove theorems and write new textbooks in the same old format, with a letter changed here or there. This is a work by a writer, I am thinking especially of Hardy but Polya as well, who understands that the purpose of mathematics is also to become a good writer, and to write books that do more than just inform the reader that this or that is true.

Hardy was really special. Don't miss out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Central to math education - maybe not central to yours, November 8, 2007
By Charles Saunders (Tallahassee, FL United States) - See all my reviews
If you have gone through Baby Rudin and not looked at this then you are making a very BIG mistake since it is a great book. Inequalities (along with hoping we guess right and can take a limit) are fundamental. If none of this makes sense to you, move on. Otherwise, buy the book. It is elderly but very well written (as is all of Hardy's work).
