Editorial Reviews

Review

"...provides project ideas for advanced students of lithic analysis." Society for Archaeological Sciences Bulletin

"Lithics joins other useful titles in the Cambridge Manuals series. It is written expressly for students and teachers of lithic analysis and will serve this audience well. It is more a text than a broad critical review of the field, but Lithics also rewards reading by practitioners." Journal of Anthropological Research

"We have needed a book like this for a long time, and this volume should be widely used both for classes in basic lithic analysis (for which there is no other text) and by students struggling with more osmotic approaches to learning about lithic analysis." Geoarchaeology

Product Description

This is the first comprehensive manual on stone artifact analysis. Logically ordered, clearly written and well illustrated, it is designed for students and professional archaeologists. It introduces the reader to lithic raw materials, and the classification of stone artifacts, basic terminology and concepts, and explains the various methods and techniques of analysis. The final section illustrates their application through detailed case studies of lithic analysis from different parts of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best for lithic analysis, February 4, 2004
By Brent Leftwich (Santa Barbara) - See all my reviews
This is a must have primer for anyone learning about stone tool manufacture. Andrefsky adeptly informs the reader of all the major aspects of non-micro lithic analysis, and I plan to require this book if when I teach lithics in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Andrefsky is a lithics god, October 21, 2005
This book explains the lithic forms and reduction seqences as clearly as anyone, and better than most. Definitely one for the archaeologists reference shelf, and good for students.
