Editorial Reviews
Review
"Cross provides a solid introduction to the study of Igor Stravinsky.... The book is engaging, well written, and thorough in its review. Recommended." Choice

"With The Cambridge Companion to Stravinsky, Jonathan Cross has skillfully put together a fine collection of essays that alternately reflect and highlight the evolution of our understanding of his personality and works. In assembling an effective, readable, and interesting group of essays, Jonathan Cross has earned our considerable thanks." Slavic Review, Ethan Haimo, University of Notre Dame

"even considering the stiff competition it faces from the daunting and ever growing heap of studies on Stravinsky, The Cambridge Companion to Stravinsky (equipped with a neat chronology of his life and career, a valuable chronological list of works and a select bibliography) manages to come up with a number of new insights, presented in a compact and easy-to-use format." The Russian Review Harlow Robinson, Northeastern University

Product Description
Stravinsky's work spanned the major part of the twentieth-century and was engaged with nearly all its principal compositional developments. Reflecting the breadth of his phenomenal achievement, this Companion contains a wide range of essays in three broad sections covering the contexts within which Stravinsky worked--Russian, modernist and compositional, with his key compositions--Russian, neoclassical and serial, and with the reception of his ideas--through performance, analysis and criticism. The volume concludes with an interview with the composer Louis Andriessen and a major re-evaluation of "Stravinsky and us" by Richard Taruskin.
