Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6-A visit to the fascinating world of some very unusual creatures, both in appearance and behavior. Most of the insects live in tropical habitats, but the text does relate similarities in behavior to those found in North America. The reasons for the insects' specific appearances and the importance of these adaptations to survival are explained. Camouflage in its many forms is stressed as being more than just a disguise to escape enemies; predators need it too. The opposite method of protection is covered, as in bright coloration and other attention-getting physical characteristics. The text is lively and informative; the clear, closeup, full-color photographs on every page reflect the concept under discussion. Simple captions keep readers focused on specific insects. An open format with appropriate type size and a glossary and index make this an accessible resource for science shelves.
