From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8 - This book explains that the ability to manage one's emotions and to understand those of others is important for success in life. Both basic and complex emotions are listed and defined. A brief Myers-Briggs personality test enables readers to determine their personality types and to facilitate self-examination. The trait called "motivation" that sets apart those with the ability to achieve goals is explored. Andrews emphasizes the cyclical relationship of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and the importance of optimism, empowerment, and people skills is effectively highlighted. Fictional scenarios enable readers to relate their own experiences to the points being made. Black-and-white photos provide useful illustrations of the meaning of facial expressions. This title will help young people to understand themselves and others better, and the tools for managing relationships and one's own emotions will promote maturity and development of social skills. - Sharon A.
