Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This is an interesting anthology in both its theme and its purpose. To emphasize that violence is not the only option in conflict resolution, Shiner challenged the contributing authors to create short stories with nonviolent resolutions to their conflicts. The results vary from a futuristic Tibetan culture threatened by aliens to an insecure bibliophile who finds security in bugs to a CEO confronted by the results of his own greedy ambition. The nonviolent resolutions are not preachy; the theme is expressed primarily through Shiner's introduction and the afterword describing peace organizations. Since Shiner's portion of the proceeds will benefit Greenpeace, he has created a fund raiser as well as a fine collection of short stories by rela tively new writers.

This book is about possiblities that challenge our most basic assumptions, set forth promising new realities and offer hope for the future. Each story deals with desperate people embroiled in conflict, who choose to turn away from violence or war,who realize that humans & other races can learn to live in peace.
