From Library Journal
The solution to a series of murders lies in the complex relationship of abuse and dependency between two sisters, one of whom is a patient of psychiatrist Jason Frank. Although his involvement in this case is less active than in the series' debut, Burning Time (Doubleday, 1993), Jason's insights help detective April Woo arrive at the murderer's identity. What separates Glass's novels from many suspense tales is her exploration of Frank's and Woo's professional and personal lives. Frank's wife has left to pursue a film career, and he compensates for loneliness by devoting himself to his patients. April copes with departmental in-fighting that jeopardizes the case while preparing for the sergeant's exam. Less violent than Burning Time, this novel engages readers through complex insights into those handling the case. Deft plotting and strong characterization will leave readers eager for further installments. For most public libraries.
