From School Library Journal
PreSchool-K-Both of these small-sized offerings contain Szekeres's familiar illustrations of sweet, smiling, wide-eyed animals. While more than half of the selections in Poems are by Marchette Chute, there are also pieces by Langston Hughes and Christina Rossetti. With familiar offerings such as Edith Rutter Leatham's "A Child's Grace" ("Thank You for the world so sweet,/Thank You for the food we eat..."), as well as less well-known blessings such as Ogden Nash's "Now Another Day Is Breaking," Prayers might be of use in religious schools. Still, with many fine anthologies of children's poetry and prayers available that feature thoughtful book design and exceptional illustrations, it is hard to see these books as anything more than slight offerings for the preschool market.
