Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
Ages 5-8. Arnosky describes the ways animals in nature camouflage themselves to escape danger. He explains how protective coloration helps woodcocks, owls, and moths stay hidden; how seasonal changes in the fur of weasels and snowshoe hares aid in concealment; and how the body shapes of speckled trout, snakes, and bittern assist them in blending in with their environments. Arnosky's distinctive watercolor paintings help clarify the text, and several invite listener participation. Large print adds to the book's appeal, though the reading level will be beyond the range of most of the intended audience. An excellent addition to primary nature units or pair it with Aruego's We Hide, You Seek (1979), Baker's Hide and Snake (1991), or Jonas' The Trek (1985) for the story hour set. Kay Weisman --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
