A Note to My Readers
My goal has been to write more than a fitness bookmany excellent how-to guides are already available. I wanted to write a special fitness book, one about people, one that meets your specific needs. A book that covered all the basics and then went beyond, from posture and stretching, through weight-training, aerobics, and nutrition, through recovering from injury, establishing a powerful doctorpatient partnership, and coming back even stronger. Above all, a book that was life-affirming.
You may already be a fitness person, you may want to become one, or you may be experiencing some physical problems which might be helped with exercise and nutritional recommendations. Whatever your current fitness status, Commitment to Fitness: Real Fitness for Real People was written with you in mind.
Ive been a fitness person all my life. I played Little League baseball as a kid, ran track in junior high school, and began studying danceballet, jazz, and modernin college. I danced professionally, taught jazz dance, and later enrolled in chiropractic school. Ive been in private practice in Manhattan for almost twenty years, treating a wide range of sports-related injuries. I know the human body. I know exercise. I have more than thirty years of front-line experience to share.
Coming back stronger is a theme running through Commitment to Fitness. Injury, even illness, can be an opportunity. Stuff happens to all of us. How will we respond? Ive attempted to present courses of action that each of us can follow, based on easy-to-understand principles that work.
The great thing about fitness is that its never too late to start. In fact, whatever your age, whatever shape youre in, you can improve your health and well-being. My book offers expert guidance and assistance along this life-long path.
