This book is written for individuals who are considering cosmetic eyelid surgery and wish to be educated. Its main goal is to make information available to you. It is written so that you will then be able to review the various sections of book at your leisure rather than in a relatively short surgical consultation or from a friend who may have undergone previous cosmetic surgery. Well-meaning friends may unfortunately provide misleading information. This book teaches you that your eyelids have a unique structure and any appropriate surgery must consider this uniqueness. While no reading material replaces the intimacy and one-on-one benefits of a pre-surgical consultation, this book helps you determine whether you are a candidate for cosmetic surgery and provides you with pertinent questions to present to the surgeon at the of your consultation. A glossary in the Appendix at the end of the book refreshes the reader about meanings of medical terms that are defined throughout the book.
About the Author
Joseph A. Mauriello, Jr, MD is one of a handful of ophthalmologists in New Jersey who specializes in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive (oculoplastic) surgery that involves eyelid as well as tear duct, socket, or orbital surgery. Dr. Mauriello, Director of Oculoplastic Surgery at UMD-NJ Medical School at Newark from 1983 to 1997.
