Product Description

An unspoken epidemic is plaguing today's society. For every act of violence there is a growing population of loved ones whose lives have been forever changed. They are the countless people left behind by victims of violence and emotionally abandoned by society.

Waking To Tears exposes the depths of souls filled with pain and grief of losing a loved one to violence. The experiences are different but the grief is not isolated, it is an overwhelming emotion that wakes you to tears.

No one is immune to violence it touches all races, religions, sexuality and economic groups. Violence knows no boundaries. For every act of violence there are too many people who continue to wake to tears, fueling a victim epidemic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Traci Nelson, April 27, 2001
By "bostnbirdy" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This book is a wonderful compilation of stories, poems, and essays written by people who have lost loved ones to violence. I, unfortunately, am one of the many people who submitted a story to this book. Traci Nelson has changed my life by doing this. After the murder of my friend, I was crushed, and I tried to do everything I could to help the situation. One day I received an email from Traci Nelson inviting me to write an essay for her book, and there was no way I could say no.

I have seen the book, and read many of the other entries, and it is simply amazing. All of these people have opened their hearts to share with anyone who reads thier stories. This book is a must-have especially for people who have lost loved ones to violence. It is also important for people who have not lost loved ones to violence to understand that these people are real, and these situations are real.

5.0 out of 5 stars How this book WILL change your life!!!!!, August 17, 2001
By Paula M. Hunter (Ambler, PA USA) - See all my reviews
I feel that my life has been very fortunate; I have not lost anyone to violence. That doesn't mean that this book did not touch me. This work of undeniable and horrifying grief made me re-examine my priorities. How can I be unhappy, considering what hasn't happened to me? I highly recommend this book for everyone. It will move you, astound you, and make you cry. I wish to personally thank each of the contributors for having the courage to share their most painful experiences so that the rest of us can learn and grow. Be prepared to cry when you read this book, I highly suggest you set aside a few hours and a box of tissues. You cannot afford to miss reading(and passing on!!!) this book, it will change your life!!!!!

Waking To Tears touches a subject that few wish to discuss, losing a loved one to violence. Ms. Nelson compiled essays, stories and poems from across the world to bring awareness and healing to anyone who has lost a loved one to violence. Waking To Tears exposes the depths of souls filled with pain and grief of losing a loved one to violence. The experiences are different but the grief is not isolated, it is an overwhelming emotion that wakes you to tears. Ms. Nelson hopes to help other victims/survivors realize they are not alone in their quest for peace in their heart. She also attempts to educate society on the long-term effects of violence. Waking To Tears will touch the deepest parts of your heart and soul.
