Product Description

Advance praise for The Mary Magdalene Within:
“The Mary Magdalene Within is an achingly beautiful, powerfully moving, and profoundly original story and teaching. Everyone who has been intrigued by The DaVinci Code will want to read this book. The deeper truth told in this book is that men need to find the divine feminine in the ordinary women who are already around them, and so to be led to discover it also in themselves.” —James Lawler, contributing author, Mel Gibson’s Passion and Philosophy

Early one morning in April 1996, author Joan Norton took up her writing instruments and asked her Cosmic Intelligence (as she calls her inner guidance) what “they” wanted her to write about. She was told that Mary Magdalene wanted to speak through her. The result of this intense emotional experience is The Mary Magdalene Within.

In many current texts, Mary Magdalene is acclaimed as the root of Christian wisdom—as well as one of its most controversial figures. In The Mary Magdalene Within, details of her teachings are disclosed as she leads the reader into a profound experience of the Sacred Feminine. In Norton’s first person narrative, Mary Magdalene describes the extraordinary story of her life and her love for Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful addition to the body of Magdalene material... , December 28, 2005
Joan Norton has created something truly special with her small but mighty book. This lovely, experiential account of Mary Magdalene, her days with Jesus, and their teachings together is layered with wisdom and beauty. A must read for those who are on this path of discovery.

Let me also say that as a trained investigative journalist and researcher, I do not normally embrace channelled material quickly or openly. However, Joan's book feels incredibly pure to me and I found all of my reservations melting rapidly away as I read. In fact, while my own research on Mary Magdalene brought me to some very different conclusions, I realized while reading Joan's book that none of that mattered. It is the message that matters - a message of divine union and love, of restoring balance and equality, of making that kind of harmony the natural state for all people - that truly matters. The rest is just details. I am finding that Mary and her message speak to everyone in a unique and personal way, all of which are valid and fascinating.

With that realization, Joan's work truly taught me something powerful for which I am very grateful.

I also applaud the layout of this book. The short chapters make it a perfect tool for meditation and/or teaching, something that I think is unique in the currently available Magdalene material.

Margaret Starbird, the brilliant author and pioneer of Mary Magdalene's legacy, calls this "a remarkable book." I couldn't agree more.

Thanks, Joan. What a gift you have given us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb. Made my heart sing., November 23, 2005
The book is told from MM's perspective and reveals both a respect between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, a treasuring of her feminine wisdom and reverence for the feminine divine.

"This he knew of me, that my ways in the world belong to another time and place and not merely to the time we lived in. He knew this, in his way of being a 'seer.' He saw the older temple life of women living separate from men, he knew these ways of life to be sacred to women."

What a powerful statement for recognition of the feminine divine.

Mary Magdalene speaks frankly, but not explicitly, about their sexual union, their sharing of thoughts and teaching each other while teaching others together as a team. It also speaks of the hardships of being accepted for who they are and in gaining acceptance of their vision of the Divine and Divine Love:

Sacred sexuality should be part of all our lives. Our sexuality is a divine creation, so why would it be hated by the divine? For what reason did we come to this earth if not to experience it in its fullest? Did we come to reject that which our creator loved? If something is divinely created, how can it be profane? Why should we hate it? This book provides a rich alternative with gentleness and grace: "...he said he know how the rivers loved the earth, how the oceans felt about the shores. I gave him knowing of love of the body as love of the Earth. He loved my body as a teach of the rhythms of the Earth. Men are without know of the rhythms which are the ebb and flow of all Creation, without know woman's bodylife and her experience as an Earth."

If we knew how the rivers loved the earth and how the oceans felt about the shores, would we dare pollute them or force them apart? We do both, along with all other manner of destruction to the sacred, innocent purity of nature. We do the same destruction to ourselves when we reject that which is divinely given.

We can divorce ourselves from the divine nature of sexuality, but we cannot do that without warping our spiritual selves and our natural place in this world. This is true if we separate the sexual experience from the divine via indulging without spiritual connection and is also true when we despise it, thus avoiding our sexuality completely. Women enjoy a special connection with nature via their creative and nurturing abilities. The recognition of our natural feminine essence is refreshing and uplifting.

A read well worth the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Story of Jesus, March 26, 2005
This is it! The Mary Magdalene Within brings alive the real love of God through the incarnate Jesus in a way that has never before been described. It is the love of God expressed through the story of the living man Jesus as he loves the living woman Mary Magdalene and through this ordinary yet miraculous relationship reaches God's oneness--- man with woman both in and of God --- true love. It is a love we as humans can embrace and understand.
As a Christian from birth and a woman, my personal struggle has been to understand Jesus' message in a way that is meaningful to my life. In my experience and in the experiences of many, many women the church's teachings have felt hollow, unapproachable, and abstract. I was taught that Jesus' love was an ethical love. I said hundreds of times, "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" --- two men and a genderless and disembodied spirit. This was a sort of love I could not understand and had never experienced. How could this love apply to me and my life?
Joan Norton in this book has shown us the complete story of God's love experienced through Jesus and his love for Mary. It is a deep and stunning story that corrects and humanizes the sanitized modern version of Christianity that has left out the females and the feminine. This book is a gift to all humans but especially to us women who wonder why Christianily has forgotten that God's love for women needs to be told if the story is to be complete and whole.
