4.0 out of 5 stars Very flexible & vegetarian-friendly!!, October 6, 2004
By Amanda L. Messina (Birmingham, AL USA) - See all my reviews
This book is awesome. The menus are flexible and easy to follow. Foster does not harp about the evils of sugar and say that all those eating carbs will go to hell. She features a 14-day menu plan for both meat-eaters and a separate 14-day vegetarian menu plan, as well as a 7-day "galvanizer" plan if you are looking to get started in a hurry. I have already seen results and this book was a good way to start. See also "The New Glucose Revolution" if you like this book and want some additional ideas and recipes, as well as a more in-depth glycemic index chart.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sensible, but has incorrect information, December 27, 2004
I have a book called "Easy GI Diet" which might be the same thing. The menus are good (although there's not as much protein as I'd like and not much red meat) and the author explains things well without going in to too much technobabble. Annoyances for me are some of the exercise comments such as "book a girl's night out". Umm hello, males are reading this book too. "...yoga... will lengthen your muscles". Wrong. There is nothing you can do, except ripping your muscles out and magically extending them then stitching yourself back up, to lengthen your muscles. I really can't stand seeing this in books as it shows a complete lack of proper research. On Day 9 of the meat eating plan Foster says "your clothes should be feeling looser around the waist, hips and thighs". Again, a lack of proper research. Not everyone loses fat in the same areas first, I know for myself these areas are the last to go and I notice weight loss from my bust and midriff long before anywhere else. The women in my family are the same, we lose the fat there considerably after losing fat elsewhere.

The overuse of the word "tone" used with regard to exercise: "such-and-such will tone your body". A buzzword which most people who really know what they're talking about avoid using.

If that kind of stuff bugs you, the rest of the book is good. I personally would have preferred to see a little more protein in the menu plans in the form of red meat but you can always make up your own menues.
