Amazon.com Review

Martha Williamson, the executive producer of the hit television series Touched by an Angel, found herself in a spiritual dilemma when she began planning her wedding. Although she saw numerous books that told her how much money to spend and how many guests to invite and offered mind-boggling check lists, she could not find a book that talked about how to create a wedding that celebrated the union before God. What soon became clear to Williamson is that she wasn't interested in elaborate theme weddings, staged performances, or even tasteful displays of wealth. She wanted to create a wedding that invited God's presence. "Because when God is there suddenly all your priorities are in order," she writes.

This is indeed an excellent resource for getting prenuptial priorities straight. Chapters include "The Myth of the Dream Wedding" and "I Don't Want a Religious Wedding," where Williamson explains that God can be present even without a religious structure. In "Dousing Old Flames and Severing Soul Ties," Williamson discusses letting go of those deep ties to old lovers in order to be fully present with your new beloved. These are the kind of warm and honest discussions we might have with our dearest, wisest aunts. Fortunately, Williamson is here to hold the hand of every bride who is looking for more than prom-glitz and theme galas and is instead seeking a more authentic and sacred union. --Gail Hudson

Review

"Inviting God to Your Wedding" is part wedding guidebook andpart diary of Williamson's own personal journey to create a sacred wedding before God. In fact, the book begins with a chapter on Williamson's own wedding, revealing her private struggles revelations. She describes herself and Anderson as "two damaged souls" when they met: He was burdened by a failed marriage and she was wounded from a demoralizing relationship. They both agreed there was much healing and soul searching to do before they could truly be united in a sacred bond. (Beliefnet, July 2000) -- From Beliefnet

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for wimps, June 11, 2000
By "edgeofnowhere" (Toledo, OH) - See all my reviews
This is the book I've spent months looking for: One that offers support, help, ideas and comfort to a bride and groom who are really seeking God. There are a few books written on "spiritual weddings" but none that are so straight-forward, honest and challenging. It's not about how to plan a ceremony that gives people warm-fuzzies. Instead, the author presents us with a loving, all-powerful, miracle-working God and stresses the importance of preparing the heart and soul for marriage, not just the guest-list, the gown and all the details (though she gives good advice on these subjects too.) Asking God to prepare you for marriage and having the courage to truly ask for His presence at your wedding and in your life is not a task for wimps, but the rewards are immeasurable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must read" if you are about to walk down the aisle, November 25, 2001
By G. Chew (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I would tell any bride to dump the wedding guides and read this book instead. It is more spiritual than religious and you will find yourself more cleansed and prepared for the big day and especially the days to follow. Martha includes inspirational stories and quotes and this book is a very easy read. There were so many wonderful words of wisdom and ideas to ponder over that I had to read it twice. Finally, I would like to say that my wedding day was beyond what I ever could have created because I invited God to be there. It is a simple act but I would have never thought of it had it not been for this book. It was a day I will never forget and it was even more wonderful because I was truly ready, spiritually and emotionally. This will be a well deserved retreat in the midst of the decisions and planning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Workout, May 25, 2000
By A Customer
For those of you who want to be spiritually prepared for marriage... this book is for you. The planning and preparation of marriage/wedding can take us away from diety. This book helps you focus on God and ensure that God will be attending your wedding. For my fiance and myself this book has been a Godsend. It allowed us to talk about difficult things in a loving and Godly way. Hurray for this book...
