The husband and wife team who compiled
Sanctuaries: A Guide to Lodgings in Monasteries, Abbeys, and Retreats have collaborated again to present a comprehensive database listing heavenly products and services from over 250 religious, spiritual, and cooperative communities. Find out about Ghost Ranch retreats in Abiqua, New Mexico--the same terrain that Georgia O'Keefe haunted for years. Other unusual discoveries include sacred recipe, mail-order caramels from the Catholic Trapistine sisters in Dubuque, Iowa, and bicycle trailers from Cerro Gordo Community in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The calendar of annual events makes it possible to tap into a festival, pilgrimage, or celestial meditation any season of the year. A permanent catalog for dreaming, scheming, and year-round gift shopping. --

From Library Journal
As the authors of Sanctuaries (LJ 9/96), the Kellys have specialized in visiting monasteries, abbeys, and retreats. Here they expand to the world of intentional communities, describing 245 religious and spiritual communities and highlighting the resources available from them. The communities are organized by state, then alphabetically within each state, with FAX and E-mail addresses included where applicable. A sidebar lists the products available from that community, and a Category Index covering all products in the book, with contact details, gives easy reference to the main section. Likewise, a product list makes this guide convenient to use as a quick reference tool. In addition, 200 black-and-white photographs and line drawings invite readers to explore and probe. Whether one seeks yoga instruction, paintings, cards, or trip, camp, retreat, or festival options, the variety is interesting. Customers are not only supporting a good cause but buying products made with attention and love. Helpful in planning day trips, locating products, and learning about intentional communities, this is essential for all public libraries.?Leroy Hommerding, Citrus Cty. Lib. System, Inverness, FL
