Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-These two books in a new series focus on 12-year-old Dana Chapin and her cousin Tyler. Dana's marine-biologist parents run Project Neptune, a mostly volunteer group that rescues sick and stranded sea creatures along the Atlantic coast. The Chapins make their home in the renovated lighthouse where the project is based. In the first title, Tyler arrives from Alaska to live with Dana's family while his father is working in Antarctica. The cousins hardly know one another, and they must both adjust to their new living arrangements. It's not long before Dana suspects that Tyler is planning something dangerous. During the exciting adventure that ensues, the cousins finally become friends. In Disaster at Parson's Point, an oil spill threatens not only the sea animals that the Chapins try to protect, but also the livelihood of their commercial-fishermen neighbors. Environmentalists and fishermen find common ground as they work together on the cleanup and rescue effort. The character delineation and plots are above average for series fiction. 4.0 out of 5 stars Reconnection With Nature, February 29, 2004
By A Customer
The novel Danger On Crab Island by Susan Saunders focused on the environment, specifically ocean life, sea animals and pollution. What I liked about the novel was the interest and importance that the author placed on creatures of the sea. I also appreciated how the characters in the novel tried to maintain a healthy environment and keep it safe and livable. The lesson I learned from reading the novel is that you should learn to love sea creatures, care for them, heal them when they're sick and recognize that sea animals are living creatures who are just trying to stay alive just like us humans.

The novel brought a sense of adventure that left me wanting to read more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danger on Crab Island, February 2, 2000
By Steve Beckmann (Yarmouth, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This is a great book! It has lots of drama and excitement. I had to read it for a school project and I am glad I picked this book to do my project on.

This book is about a boy named Tyler who tries to kayak out to Crab Island through dangerous currents, wind and waves. Only Dana, his cousin, knows he is out there. When Tyler gets in trouble on the water Dana must mount a rescue. Read the book to find out what happens next.

I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Matthew, age 10
