From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 3-Two highly pictorial presentations. Each book depicts a threatened animal in its special habitat, using a fictional framework to present information on physiology and behavior as well as the local flora and fauna. Costello's text follows a pair of yearling Florida panthers as they experience their first days on their own in the Big Cypress National Preserve, a tangle of palmetto thickets, marshes, hammocks, and prairies in southern Florida. Siegrist's vivid watercolors reflect this varied environment. Fraggalosch turns to the Koeye River Valley in British Columbia, following a female grizzly and her cubs through a cycle of seasons. Eberhart's richly hued paintings limn their lushly forested home, coordinating with the text. Each title includes a global-location map, a page of further data, and a large foldout panorama showing all the plants, birds, etc., mentioned in the text. Agreeable additions.
