From School Library Journal
Grade 9 Up-This anthology examines the complex historical scope of this nation from its earliest dynasties, approximately 2205 B.C.E. through centuries of Confucian-influenced dynasties and continuing to the advent of communism, the Cultural Revolution, and the modern country. An excellent historical overview sets the stage for the series of articles that follow. Chapters are arranged either chronologically or thematically according to the nature of the material. Within the chapters, each article is introduced with a selection from a germane text that serves to orient readers to the ensuing article. Both primary and secondary documents and materials are included in the text. The articles include treatments of those important events that shaped the evolution of China politically and socially. Sidebar stories enhance the text. Useful for high school students and beyond.
