5.0 out of 5 stars important read, September 18, 2007
By B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you're a fan of classic rock, you must read this book to get the knowledge you've been craving.

I wanted to say that it's nice when people respect the revolutionary giants of rock, but it would be even better in my opinion if people also respected the other talented bands out there that don't (or didn't) receive the same level of popularity and respect. That's why I am bringing up Mountain and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. These bands probably won't be remembered 30 years from now, and I wish that wasn't the case because I feel they're worth listening to on the same level as Led Zeppelin or whatever, and that's why I'm so passionate about getting people to check them out.

I love reading reviews from people who say they've checked out some rare band "just because" and became a big fan as a result. That's really special, if you ask me. It means they took that important step into checking out music on their own, and found something to satisfy them as a result. These people weren't told to buy it- they just bought it for whatever reason. Maybe someone encouraged them to buy it by playing creative music for them, and they said to themselves "Hmm, maybe there's more creative music out there". That's a healthy attitude.

Keep reading and finding out about other rock bands that were never popular and please check them out. Whether it's underground rock bands from 30 years ago, or brand new bands. I'm being respectful here, because I *really* want people to check out enjoyable bands that deserve to be remembered. Hey, check out Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame! :)

It's annoying when you try your hardest to get people to hear music that's creative, unpopular or just different, and people don't appreciate it and instead request to hear Creed or whatever. That's insulting because you can turn on your radio any time you want to hear Creed.

It just seems like many people deliberately hate music that's not currently popular. I don't like this attitude. Trust me, there's a LOT of people I've met who've straight up told me they refuse to listen to music that's not popular. There's other people who I thought were more open-minded to appreciate music that's not popular, but most of them turned out to only want the stuff you can hear on the radio after all.

The point I'm making with all this heavy talk about respect and being open-minded is that it's important to read this book to get a better understanding and appreciation for the rock musicians of the past, and it's important to remember them for the rest of our lives. Purchase The Big Book of Classic Rock today.
