5.0 out of 5 stars Corals of the World, February 13, 2001
By Christopher Sanders "osxpro" (Euless, Tx United States) - See all my reviews
JEN Veron is by far the most talented researcher when it comes to Coral classification. I just received his 3 volume reference "Corals of the World" and spent about 6 hours reading and reviewing. If you are a Reef Aquarium hobbiest or simply appreciate Coral classification and taxonomy this reference is an absolute must have. I have Veron's other reference "Corals of Australia and Indo-Pacific and it too is remarkable in every sense. If you are a reef hobbiest and simply need an easy reference book on coral care and compatabilty this publication might not be for you. However, if your a serious reef keeper, the money spent on this reference is worth every penny. The reference primarily gives you highly acurate coral clasifaction and taxonomy. The photos are astoundingly amazing as well. I give this book marks well above 5 stars. I seriusly doubt that there will ever be another book published with this type of information. I consider my new reference set one of my most prized possesions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, October 31, 2003
By Too Cold in Madison (Madison, WI, USA) - See all my reviews

This is a fabulous set of books. It is probably the most complete taxonomic encyclopedia of stony corals in existence. The pictures are beautiful and the information fascinating. That said, this is not for your basic reef aquarist. It covers only the stony corals of the order scleractinia. There is nothing here about zoanthids, corallimorphs or the various other soft corals. If you want a great book about common aquarium corals, I would strongly recommed Eric Borneman's "Aquarium Corals" or Fossa & Nilsen's "The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium, Volume 2." If you have a deep fascination for stonys and are OK spending $160, this set is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional and state of the art, May 15, 2005
Worth the money

The pictures in this set are of the highest quality
and it is perhaps the most complete work on the taxonomy of stony corals in print. However much more on the subject is needed as many of the stony corals are not represented here. This is notthe fault of the author because the subject is just so vast. One can only hope that this set will be followed by the author with further volumes. Sure to satisfy the coral enthusiast but it will leave one begging for more.
