Product Description

Desire came like a wildfire to the Colorado hills...to claim a woman's property...and her heart.

For five years after her father died, lithe, beautiful Dee Swann held on to Angel Creek valley and her independence. The homestead was hers, and she vowed no one else would ever own it...or her. Then Lucas Cochran came back to Colorado. In the drought-cursed high country, he needed Angel Creek and its cool water to turn his Double C ranch into the cattle dynasty he craved. His ruthless ambition guaranteed he would fight to take it away from the black-haired, green-eyed spitfire who claimed it.

But the passion that blazed when Dee Swann and Lucas Cochran met shocked them both. Unbidden, unexpected, their kisses swept them toward a dangerous destiny where dreams might be scattered...men could be killed...or love would be born as wild and unfettered as this glorious frontier.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sexy western, September 8, 2002
By A Customer
I've always loved the tough-as-nails cowboy hero and Lucas is just that. I also liked Dee's independent nature. These two are quite a match. I know that other readers were disturbed by the scene in which Lucas first has sex with Dee, but I must admit it's one of the most sexually explosive scenes I've ever read in a romance novel. It's starts off as a fight and quickly develops into overriding lust. I know it's not PC to like this type of thing, but from my vantage point (i.e., from my safe distance on the recliner where I know that romance novel heroes really love their heroines) it's Sexy (notice the capital "S").

The only thing I didn't like about this novel was something that another critic has also noted: Dee's willingness to carry on an affair with Lucas. It's implausible that a woman of strong integrity like Dee would have an affair. I was disappointed in her character for capitualating to Lucas so easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, January 12, 2000
By A. J. Denton (Barre, VT USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Lucas is a rather dashing rancher type..Dee is a smart, sassy and independant farmeress. When these two meet and wrangle over the Angel Creek valley sparks (and clothes) fly. I enjoyed this one very much, but will give it only four stars because the side romance of Olivia and the ranch hand fellow was distracting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read, November 9, 1998
By A Customer
The story is set in Prosper, Colorado. A story of an ambitious man (Lucas Cochran) that goes back to Colorado after a ten year absence. In order to make his ranch sucessful, he needs the water from Angel Creek owned by Dee Swann. Fights and tension are present thoughout the book and like many of other Linda Howard books, the love scenes sizzle!

1.0 out of 5 stars No Substance
This was another book that I coouldn't finish. It had no substance to it what so ever. Take away the sex and you have nothing. Don't bother with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better
Lucas practically raped Dee. There is no way that an independent woman like that would have been overcome by lust in that approach. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, but enjoyable.
Nothing surprised or delighted me, but the story was still good. The characters were good. The heroine Dee was a strong independent woman who was fun to read about. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Self respect

2.0 out of 5 stars Not One Of Her Bests
I usually love Howards books but every now and again our favorite authors fall short. This is one of those times. I found the plot boring. The secondary characters boring. Read more
