It's sometimes true that good things come in small packages. This little (seven by seven inches) book is crammed with easy recipes that produce delicious results. The cakes utilize baking powder and baking soda instead of yeast, which makes them quick to put together. Novices will have no problem following the well-organized recipes; the more experienced will also find enough to intrigue them, from classic sour cream coffee cake to low-fat banana tea bread. Hadda, a New York City writer, provides a brief but thorough introduction to both techniques and ingredients. Her chapters cover crumb, loaf, fresh fruit, special occasion and "slicing" cakes, and her ingredients are commonplace; beyond a few baking pans, no special equipment is called for. The recipes are drawn from many sources, and Hadda includes variations on some of them. She supplies helpful notes on substituting ingredients and creating variations on your own. A chapter on accompanying spreads and butters is also included. So Coffee Cakes may be just what's needed when you want something special for breakfast without squandering time on it.

This book has excellent, if sometimes difficult recipes for everything from simple loaf cake to fancy cheese cake layered with coffee cake and fruit. I have not been even remotely dissapointed with any of the 10 (out of more than 70) cakes I've made. If you like to bake and are looking for different and delicious this has to be on your shelf.

If you are looking for coffee cakes that you could get at Grandma's house, here it is. This book covers all of the basics, crumb cakes, tea loafs, fruit cakes, and just about every variety of coffee cake imaginable. This book does not have any photos or illustrations, but the directions are straight forward. Everything is very simple to prepare, and many of the cakes can be made with ingredents that are in most any well stocked pantry. Also it features a nice little selection of butters and spreads to put on those fresh warm slices of cake, mmmm. very nice!

Everyone should and must try this book. I have made several recipes from this book and my goodness. These recipes are delicious. Especially the Old Fachioned Butter Coffee Cake. There's also the Fresh Fruit cakes like the Cranberry- Apple Torte; Loaf Cakes like Date Nut Loaf; Slicig cakes such as Valencia Rum Cake; Special Occasion cakes like the one bowl Carrot Cake and Hawaiian Coconut Coffee Cake and so many more. The recipes in here are rich, moist and very enjoyable. Also, they are very easy to follow. Cerri Hadda has done a great job in compiling edible recipes to share with everyone. Note: The recipes here are HIGHLY tempting to make all of the time, since they are so easy to make once you get the flow of how quickly they are put together. This is a good thing and a not so good thing when you are watching your diet. But a piece now and then will not hurt. No need to buy other coffee cake books. This is it... ENJOY!
