4.0 out of 5 stars Great help, but shouldn't be your only book, May 15, 2000
By P. Delahanty (Near Boston) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book came in very handy when I wanted to find a place to eat or stay near a city, but was pretty much useless once I set out into the countryside. The information on Dublin is VERY detailed, but I think they concentrate on that city too much and it takes away from other sections of the book. The information about Cork could have been a bit more detailed. It's the second largest city, but you'd never guess it from this book.

Also, the information on the Ring of Kerry was helpful at times, but the book only seemed to cover the essentials. Luckily, I brought along a book on Southwestern Ireland that covered the Ring of Kerry in more detail...but needing a map of the Limerick area, I had to stop by the Tourist Bureau. (The city maps in the book are inadequate for most purposes.)

However, this book DID mention some information about the town of Sneem on the Ring of Kerry which is more than I can say for some other books that didn't even acknowledge its existance!

If you're planning a trip (or going to go and travel around spontaneously), get this book. You'll want to get a couple others too that specialize in the region you're visiting, but together they should provide a complete resource for a trip which you're sure to look back on with fondness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Foder's Ireland 2000 -, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
Great book to take with you! Includes special section on Dublin - nightlife, shopping, restaurants. The rest of Ireland is covered in other sections. Helps you plan a day-trip itinerary, suggests the best ways to get around. Reviews hotels and restaurants, includes something for various budgets. Also gives you language info and history. Enjoy!
