Dermatology/Immunology reference superstar., June 8, 2000
Stedman's Dermatology and Immunology Words is once again in the Stedman category of excellent medical reference books. This extremely handy book, ideal for the medical transcriptionist who deals with dermatology, allergy, rheumatology, and infectious diseases, including those in the HIV-related area, will not go wrong with this volume. In addition to the aforementioned specialty categories, it also includes diagnostic procedures, lab tests, equipment/instruments and even prosthesis terms in the involved specialties. It is fully cross-referenced which is extremely handy when you know the dictator is saying, for example, some kind of "acne", but cannot clearly hear or are not totally acquainted with his/her statement such as "varioliformis acne" as one example. Additionally, there are several indexes that include appropriate anatomical illustrated guides, a list of commonly used word combination forms [viz, "chondro = cartilage, etc.], and, very handy, an extensive list of common allergens. The editor claims this book has 41,000 entries which also include abbreviations and acronyms. The medical transcriptionist, who especially deals with dermatology/allergy, cannot go wrong with this reference book. As a medical transcriptionist, I rate it tops.
