4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for moving forward in your life's journey, October 22, 1999
I have read a number of "self help" books and this one was incredibly solid and practical while making me understand that my wildest dreams are possible. Incredible!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY Fantastic!!!!, June 25, 1999
By A Customer
This book, and the conference I attended after reading the book, CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!! I've literally purchased at least a dozen copies and given them away to women... I want everyone to know this kind of freedom.

My husband and children respect me so much MORE because now I'm being true to myself and everyone else.... it's incredible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some useful info, but not enough, October 13, 2002

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Gail Blanke's "In My Wildest Dreams" offers some good advice for brainstorming and planning a career that suits your passions, but not enough to earn it a place among classic career counseling books like "What Color is My Parachute" and "Do What You Are." I felt galvanized after I read it, but was struck that much of the ideas and advice had a familiar ring to them, and several I had tried before.

The book is designed like a seminar, with fictionalized participants taking the steps and responding as they would. I found this style choice effective but a little labored. The advice will be familiar to many: pinpoint your passion, brainstorm ideas of how to transfer your ruling passion into a career of your own design, and build a network to launch from. There is a chapter on specific goal setting, where Blanke likens goals to a mountaintop, with specific actions leading up the pinnacle. Her ball-of-fire personality comes through in her writing -- I'm sure her seminars are great.

A decent career building tool -- effective without being groundbreaking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but hardly unique
To me, the best part of this book was Blanke's discussion of how the language we use often limits us, and how reframing the way we state something can open up new possibilities we... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart, sharp how-to life design for women--and men, too.
Gail Blanke has boiled her Lifedesigns course down into a smart, even dramatic book that tracks a class of female students trying to change their own lives. Read more
