Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

A TV chef, particularly one featured on Regis and Kathie Lee, should provide fast yet tasty recipes for anyone to emulate. So it comes as no surprise that Anthony's second book (the first being Cooking with Love) includes primarily culinary bytes--those dishes in one page or less that will appeal to families, couples, singles, young, and old. Expect the familiar Italian foodstuffs streamlined for convenience; a few more unusual recipes appear in the list of 200: roasted chestnut bisque, string beans and potato salad, clam cakes, sweet and sour calf's liver, and pine nut cookies. Gushy introductions to each chapter are balanced by Anthony's easy-to-follow directions. Barbara Jacobs

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent recipes!, February 25, 1998

This is a wonderful source of good old Italian favorites...the kind you mom made when you were growing up, but that you never seemed to find the time to learn how to make.

5.0 out of 5 stars A SUPERB SELECTION OF ITALIAN DISHES, June 16, 2005

Just when we think we know all there is to know about pastas and veal piccata, along comes Francis Anthony to prove us wrong. The former official chef of "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" has compiled not only a superb selection of Italian dishes but also penned a touching and witty reminiscence of growing up around his mother's generous table.

The grandson of a green grocer, Anthony puts the spotlight on fresh vegetables. In his hands, the Brussels Sprouts abhorred by a recent president are incredibly delicious, spiked with Balsamic Vinaigrette and tossed with almonds or pine nuts. Eggplant slices layered with prosciuto and Parmesan cheese are crowned with Mozzarella to make a dish fit for the Doge's Palace.

Genoese Fish Stew, assorted fish fillets rich with tomatoes, onions, garlic and walnut oil, is a breeze to prepare but looks and tastes like four hours in the kitchen. From the creamy chocolate Tiramisu to a redesigned lighter version of the author's mother's traditional cheesecake, the desserts or "dolci" would be perfect conclusions to any meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like my Grandma's cooking!, August 21, 2002
By A Customer
I was alway kicking myself for not getting my Grandmother's recipes down before she passed on. But Francis Anthony's recipes really emulate her Sicilian style. I love everything I've tried, especially "Aunt Ida's Meatballs". This cook book is a "must have" for everyone! I use it more than any other book I own.
