Editorial Reviews

Review

"A great deal of our interaction with babies centers on food. And since they thrive on good, wholesome, healthy food, why not learn the best, easiest ways to prepare food that nurtures their developing minds and bodies and spirits."-- Dr. Dale Atkins, noted New York child psychologist, author of numerous books on parenting and children's health, and host of "Mothering"

Product Description

Here is you source book for feeding your baby the healthy and natural way as seen on Mothering, the television series on Fox FX, Fox Fit TV, and Fox Health Networks. From the makers of The Well Fed Baby line of organic, soy-based baby food, this book offers parents easy-to-make, all-natural recipes as an alternative to baby food. Not only are these recipes better-tasting and healthier than processed jarred baby food, they can be made at home in just minutes and at a fraction of the cost. Some of the recipes are presented by guest chefs who share with you their favorite ways to feed their little ones.

The Well Fed Baby will teach you the basics of making baby food at home, as well as the benefits of using organic foods and soy foods, and how to initiate healthy eating habits from birth. The authors guide you through the different stages of feeding your baby, from milk and strained cereal at six months to chopped foods at twelve months. Your baby will love meals such as Carrot Puree with Mint, Baked Acorn Squash and Brown Rice, and Broccoli and Chicken Dinner. And you will love knowing that you are giving the very best to your well-fed baby.

The Well-Fed Baby offers parents an alternative to jarred baby food, most of which is loaded with sweeteners. Making baby food at home is easy-almost all you need are fresh fruits and vegetables and a food processor or blender. Following Robin Sweet's recipes, the results are delicious purees of apples, mangos, bananas, carrots, and other foods that babies love. The Well-Fed Baby will be an essential purchase for expecting parents.

The Well-Fed Baby is the tie-in for a new television program by the same name, airing Fall 1999 on Fox FX, Fox Fit TV, and brand-new Fox Health networks. Produced by author Robin Sweet, the new series will cover everything related to keeping your baby healthy: diet, exercise, and so much more. Robin Sweet will demonstrate how to make baby food at home on each episode. The author will also promote the cookbook on the air.The Well-Fed Baby offers parents an alternative to jarred baby food, most of which is loaded with sweeteners. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Baby Food Book I Bought!, November 30, 1999
By L. Stabler (Marietta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had planned to make my own baby food, so I bought several books on the subject. This book was by far the best one of the lot. It gives clear, concise guidelines for what foods to feed babies at different ages, done in bulleted lists that make the book very easy to read. The recipes are fairly simple and don't use alot of esoteric ingredients like many of the other baby cookbooks. Overall, this is the best laid out and most informative baby food book out there. A great buy for anyone interested in cooking their baby's food.

2.0 out of 5 stars USE WITH CAUTION, September 21, 2000
By A Customer
There is some confusing and questionable advice in this book. For instance, it's commonly held that babies shouldn't have cow's milk before the age of one year, yet there are many recipes in here that call for 2 cups or more of cow's milk for 6-month-olds! Also, there are recipes that call for "brown rice", again for six-month-olds, with no explanation as to whether they mean cooked brown rice, like Uncle Ben's, or if there's an infant brown rice cereal (I've never seen it). There are even some recipes that recommend citrus for young babies, but I've read you should wait until at least a year to introduce citrus fruits. This may be a decent recipe book for older babies, but I don't intend to use it for my beginning eater.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really what I needed, February 24, 2003
I purchased this book because I was looking for help in making all of my son's baby food. The book doesn't really help with this, since all of the recipes are multi-ingredient, and (of course) when just starting out, you really need preparation instructions for single ingredient stuff.

I decided not to keep the book even after my baby was eating mixed food because: 1) The recipes are not very inventive (it was all stuff I would've come up with on my own); 2) The book is not very easy to work with (it's small and doesn't stay open to a given page very easily); 3) There are no illustrations or other aids to help you find ideas quickly.

A friend of mine brought over Super Baby Foods and I purchased that instead. I wish someone had mentioned *that* book to me before I'd bought this one - that's why I'm writing this review. If you're looking for help getting started making your own baby food, like I was, Super Baby Food is the book for you - not this one.
