Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3 Up This 11th edition of the perennial favorite contains a listing of 250 things that can be ordered free of charge or for up to one dollar. Utilizing the same format as in past editions, this revision is filled with all sorts of safe, fun, and informative things that kids like. Items range from tiny tools to bowling tips to addresses of all state and county tourist offices. There's even a special $2 offer for an electronic pocket piano. Supposedly all suppliers have promised to honor all properly made requests through 1988. The first section of the book gives directions for sending post cards, money, and self-addressed stamped envelopes. The great advantage of this book is that kids can use it independently and reap rewards for their efforts. Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Pub . Schools, Va.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for kids!, March 22, 1999
By A Customer
Bought this book four months ago, and my daughter LOVES it! They enjoy sending out, and receiving, something in the mail. Good, and cheap, way for them to have fun. And I don't know about the other reader, but my daughter has not received any junk mail because of these freebies yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Childhood Memories, May 28, 2006
By Dawn C. Zander (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had a book like this when I was a kid and I loved it. I loved getting stuff in the mail. However, after reading one person's review, I started to think that it is not such a good idea. I am a shopaholic and I love to order stuff online and I look forward to getting the mail. It is a "high" for me. I would not want my kid to have those same thoughts and feelings.

I had a copy of this book (an earlier edition!) when I was growing up, and loved it. It's nice to pass it on to the next generation. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is a scam, pure and simple.
Anyone with any brains could tell that this book is merely a ploy to get children on the lists of direct mail marketers at an early age. Read more
