According to sex therapist and erotic-philosopher Block, sexual stupidity is at the root of human problems, ranging from heartache, misery, and loneliness to prejudice, bigotry, and violence. Further, she asserts that even after the sexual revolution and contraceptive advances, a multitude of state laws and religious commandments pertaining to sexuality continue to be restrictive. She therefore offers 20 commandments?ten for women, ten for men?designed to help identify and activate both common and individual pleasure points vital to achieving sexual freedom. Together, these laws of love and pleasure embody a code that the author calls ethical hedonism. Although her advice constitutes an adequate workbook for individuals in healthy sexual relationships, it falls short of providing the detailed techniques in more comprehensive works such as Barbara Keesling's Sexual Pleasure (LJ 2/1/94). Block's sound-bite approach and irritating habit of referring to her readers as "darlings" also detract from the book's appeal.
