About the Author
Balwant Saini is a professor of Architecture at the University of Queensland. He has particular interests in the problems of building and planning in developing countries and has acted as a consultant to United Nations agencies. His interest in colonial tropical architecture goes back to his childhood in India where he lived in British military bungalows. Ray Joyce's meticulous photographic style has been a vital contribution to several publications. He spent his childhood in a traditional Australian house and so, quite early, developed a special feeling for this form of architecture.
