Editorial Reviews

Review
Elian McCready has been one of the best-selling designers for tapestry company Ehrman for many years with her rich, colourful and innovative designs of the natural world. Freely admitting to a hording tendency at home, this overflows into her designs, rarely leaving space for background, so full of fruit or flowers is the picture. Wallhangings, cushions, stools and even slippers and waistcoats are included in this collection of her designs. Peonies and hollyhocks, cockerels and cats, pansies and irises, roses and Flemish florals, pineapples and pears - all appear in the vibrant hues so synonymous with McCready's name. Gloriously presented in full colour throughout, the patterns are clearly illustrated and explained together with photographs of the finished result. An introduction to each project by McCready herself gives her thoughts on the subjects and the inspiration behind them. A short synopsis of techniques is included at the rear, again clearly illustrated and succinctly pertinent.. More aimed at experienced needlepersons, this would make a wonderful gift for lovers of McCready's designs and Ehrman tapestries. But for novices it would provide the inspiration to learn the centuries-old technique of tapestry and try the designs out for themselves. - Lucy Watson

Product Description
As one of Ehrman Tapestry's best-selling designers, Elian McCready's work is colorful and larger than life, yet beautifully subtle. Included in this gorgeous book are designs that were previously only available in kit form, plus six completely new creations.

The projects are worked in tent stitch and long stitch. Superb color charts and photographs make the instructions easy to follow. There's also invaluable advice on materials, stitching and making up.

Elian McCready is an artist working in textile embroidery. After gaining a BA in Fine Art and photography, she discovered the medium of pictorial woven tapestry. On winning the Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship in 1985, she visited Egypt and has remained strongly influenced by its colorful free woven tapestry murals. After a period working for Kaffe Fasset, Elian became self-employed and since 1991 has designed needlepoint kits for the renowned Ehrman Tapestry Company, establishing herself as one of their leading designers. She lives in Conwy, North Wales.

5.0 out of 5 stars Careful - same as hardcover of same name, diff cover, October 29, 2005
This is a wonderful book, but be careful. It is the same book as the hardcover that Amazon is listing as a great book to get WITH this one. They have the same title, but the cover changed with the paperback.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite book on needlepoint, February 23, 2006
By K. Lonborg (Portland, Or) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have books by Graham Rust, Candace Bahouth, Kaffe Fassett, Beth Russell among other notable designers in needlepoint and this is the only one that I want to do every design in the book. The charts are easy to read, with symbols in addition to being colored. I wouldn't recommend it for a true beginner, but it is a fantastic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Designs
I am very pleased with this book. The designs are very beautiful and colorful. I have purchased books in the past that did not inspire me to begin a project like this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful!
I really like Elian's artwork in needlepoint. She has a good sense of combining colours to bring out the most beautiful floral display. This book was not a disappointment. Read more
