Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Canine and Feline Theriogenology is the only comprehensive, up-to-date textbook on small animal reproduction available. Veterinary management of normal reproduction and reproductive disorders in the male and female dog and cat are covered in detail, including such topics as sexual differentiation and normal anatomy, breeding management, use of chilled and frozen semen, pregnancy and parturition, neonatal care, clinical approach to infertility, and diseases of each of the reproductive organs. Some chapters address the pet overpopulation problem in the United States and approaches to population control in these species. This book is an invaluable resource to veterinarians, veterinary students, and others interested in companion animal reproduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for the professional, December 20, 2007
By Jeffrey A. Howell (Ft Collins, CO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
OK yes this is a professional text, written for the professional, not the layman. I do not know why anyone would expect otherwise. Dr. Johnson is the acknowledged dean of Canine Theriogenology, and this is her classic tome on the subject. Written in 2001, it is becoming a tiny bit dated, but is still without doubt the definitive book on the subject, and any reproductive practicioner would find their library lacking without this reference. For the GP or ordinary Vet student, maybe not of interest, this is a specialist's book. Probably the most utilized book in my collection, along with Small Animal Surgery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great technical book!, January 22, 2004
This book has tons of information on most topics related to canine and feline reproduction. I haven't been able to find a lot of this information from other sources. It's more of a veterinary text than what an ordinary dog or cat breeder would need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canine and Feline Theriogenology , February 28, 2009
The book is at the technical level anticipated. Very pleased with the quality of the book. I had prior exposure to the contents of the book and was pleased with the consistency of detail in those sections I had not had the opportunity to review prior to my purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Better school book than practice book
This is an exhaustive book on repro. It is NOT a quick reference nor a book to get a quick answer. If you want a thorough review, this is it. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the serious breeder who needs to know more
This text is used in both veterinary and veterinary tech courses so one should have some background in medical terminology to get the most benefit from it. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars hard to read
This book is for doctors and veterinarians. It is hard to read as a student. It's contained with a ton of information, but I personally find it hard to read.
