Tony Stewart.
Gr. 4-7. Titles in the new NASCAR Racing series are winning choices for fans of a sport with skyrocketing popularity. Tony Stewart highlights the life of the NASCAR star from his start in the world of go-karts and midget racers to his adult career driving Indy cars and stock cars. There's little discussion of Stewart's private life, other than a brief mention of his flashes of off-track temper that led to required anger management sessions. The Daytona 500 features a history of the race and the layout of the track along with brief biographies of some of stock-car racing's greatest stars. Both books skillfully combine a simple text and action-packed, mostly color photographs. Also included are a brief glossary and addresses for more information. By using the ISBN number of each book, students can pull up a selection of Internet sites from the publisher's Web site. Suggest these to kids with lower reading skills as well as all stock-car fans.
