Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
RaeLynne, the parent of two gifted children, coauthored with her teenage daughter this guide on identifying and positively exploiting the talents of children. The authors focus on four specific areas: leadership, creativity, social consciousness, and sense of humor. In each chapter a special person is interviewed who demonstrates the quality under discussion. For example, children's musician Hap Palmer is the interviewee in the creativity section. Most beneficial are the practical suggestions. Specific activities are suggested, along with books, videos, software, and associations for parents, teachers, and children. The Reins state frankly that any child can possess these qualities, and they recommend the best materials for parents and caregivers to help them develop such special skills. Denise Perry Donavin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected., February 8, 2001
By A Customer
Judging from the title, I was expecting a book which would give practical advice and resources for raising an intellectually gifted child. Even though I was surprised that the "gifts and talents" the title refers to are in areas such as "sense of humor" and "social consciousness," I tried to appreciate the book anyway. After all, it is true that all children have some "gift" or area of excellence, whether it is in an academic area or not. However, I found the book dull and lacking in useful advice. I got very little out of it. At the very least, they should change the title to reflect the emphasis on social talents.
