Editorial Reviews

Product Description
With the advent of new, inexpensive photographic technology emerging in the United States during the mid-19th century, communication by postcard became a very popular way to exchange travel stories, news, and gossip over the decades. Drawing on a private collection of vintage postcards, this new book features a history of Hollywood, spanning half a century. Exploring Hollywood before and after it became the entertainment capital of the world, these images offer readers a glimpse of some of the cityís most interesting places during its Golden Years. Long before motion pictures arrived, when the area was a residential neighborhood of beautiful homes and lemon groves, Hollywood was just another suburb of Los Angeles striving to become a community. From the familiar sights of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and the ChinesTheater, to the horse-and-buggy driven dirt roads and pineapple fields at the turn of the century, Hollywood in Vintage Postcards will guide the curious through the city's progress in the first half of the 20th century.

About the Author
Tommy Dangcil, born and raised in Hollywood, has a Bachelor of Arts in Radio/Television/and Film from California State University-Los Angeles, and is currently a Hollywood Local 728 Studio Electrical LightingTechnician.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hollywoodian, July 9, 2003
By Marshall Montgomery (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Born and raised in Hollywood, I am facinated by the history of all the places I've visited and seen growing up as a kid. Thomas Dangcil makes you relive what this glitzy town was and how it came to be.
It's great seeing the history of Hollywood unfold before your eyes in this book and how it has transformed itself into a icon of stardom that is re·nowned worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY FOR THOSE IN THE "BUSINESS", December 6, 2002
By A Customer
Besides being a good resource guide, the compilation of information is in chronological order. This makes for effortless accessibility. The writing is clear, informative, and well researched. The author took time and care to put these postcards in this format. I can only assume that the author has a love for the movie industry and all the machinations it takes to make the final product. I hope to see more from this author in the future.

By A Customer
I was fascinated by this book! I could not believe the changes in Hollywood over the years. And the captions were so informative and incredibly well written. I felt like I had taken a class in Hollywood History. A perfect present for anyone who loves beautiful books.
