Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With features on CBS's Sunday Morning and NPR's All Things Considered, EllynAnne Geisel raises the apron to cult status. This little book asserts, "You can never have too many aprons or too many memories." Apron anecdotes and aphorisms merge with quotes, photographs, and memories to offer down-home-spun, no-nonsense wisdom that is tinged with humor. For ultimate giftability, the book's case wrap mimics fabric.

About the Author

EllynAnne Geisel, an essayist and apron aficionado, celebrates the spirit of the men and women who wore aprons through her traveling exhibit, Apron Chronicles: A Patchwork of American Recollections, now managed by The Women's Museum (Dallas, TX), a Smithsonian affiliate. Her passion for aprons can also be seen through her inventive vintage designs for her company, Apron Memories. Her aprons have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and worn by Bree Van De Kamp of the Desperate Housewives television show. EllynAnne lives in Pueblo, Colorado, with her prince charming, Hank. Her sons Noah and Gideon have flown the coop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love My Sweet Copy of Apronisms , May 28, 2008
By Grace Brown "katmom" (Spokane, WA. USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought "Apronisms" and just love it.
I think it makes a wonderful gift tucked into an apron pocket.
$5.99 is comparable with other similar books of it's size.
This book has a wonderful texture and I love the graphics and the sweet "thoughts" that are incorperated in this darling little book.
I have both Apronisms and The Apron Book by author Ellyanne Geisel and
I look forward to seeing other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A renewed interest in aprons!, July 5, 2009
By lynn (north carolina) - See all my reviews
I've worn aprons for more than half my life. As a child, I had a cute little half apron to wear when helping my mother in the kitchen. More than 20 years later, barbecue bib aprons became part of our outdoor cooking paraphenalia. After ruining a few pieces of good clothing while cooking, I began wearing aprons to prepare and cook all food at our house.
When I got my first copies of Geisel's vintage linens and apron books, I was fascinated by the thought that ordinary kitchen linens had become the subject of books and people were buying these books and commenting on them. For me as so many others, it is the nostalgia that these books evoke, an opportunity to revisit and remember simpler times when I didn't have to worry about when went on in the world. I've given these books as gifts to my friends who also like to remember the carefree days of our youth.
I now have an embroidery business and my favorite designs are recreations of hand embroidered designs from the past - many found in these books - that women painstakingly embroidered in their spare time on towels, sheets and clothing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Darling Little Book Full of Wisdom, July 4, 2008
This is a darling little book. I bought The Apron Book, also by EllynAnne Geisel and it's a real jewel. This book is a jewel as well. Very cute indeed. I love all things retro and kitch and this little book is a great reflection of retro wisdoms and cuteness. I am planning to buy several for my special girlfriends who love retro stuff too!
