Editorial Reviews

Review

I feel this is the definitive story of Army Aviation and Vietnam. -- LTC Carle E. Dunn, USA - Retired, Author

I wondered why our soldiers had to die in Vietnam. This book gave me the answers and explained why. -- Joe M. Hightower, Sr., Reader, November 21, 2001

The Last Hookers is an outstanding job by Colonel Dunn. His events are accurate and excellently detailed. -- Lieutenant General James Hollingsworth, USA-Ret. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Product Description

Colonel Dunn brings to life worldwide events that led America to Viet Nam. From President Truman to President Nixon, he shines light into dark corners of the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and the White House. Based on fact, he traces events from Germany, Japan, Great Britain, France, North and South Viet Nam, and the United States that made America’s involvement in Southeast Asia unavoidable.

Follow Legionnaire Jean Danjou as he places navigational beacons for American B-29s to drop atomic bombs at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. Learn fearsome events that put the United States a word away from atomic attacks against Communist China and the USSR 19 times.

Frederick Earling shows the CIA fighting a decades long, secret war in Laos. Lanny Briscoe reveals the NSA’s role from World War II to Viet Nam.

The Last Hookers puts you in cockpits with Army aviators throughout battles in Viet Nam. Fly with the 362nd Aviation Company as it fights North Viet Nam’s most intense effort to capture Saigon.

Of books about America in Southeast Asia, The Last Hookers is the most comprehensive. You will become stunned at its vivid disclosures. You will wonder how they survived. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Hookers, April 21, 2002
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
Carle E. Dunn has done the hookers and anyone who is interested in what really happened in Vietnam a great service in pointing out the good and the bad, the brave and not so brave, the strife and the glory. Having "been there, done that", the book brings out the history, the fights, the family of yesteryear long buried. It should not, for our brave who have given their all should not be forgotten. This book brings it well into the fore-front.

Carle clearly separates a bad war from the good warriors who faught it. The Last Hookers suggest a much more positive view of not just the outcome of the war, but also of American morale, competence, and performance. A must read.

Ex Hooker, (Recovery)

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Takes You There!, December 11, 2001
By "irawl" (Utah, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
I couldn't put this book down. It has everything a person could want in a thriller and most of the things really happened. The details make you believe you are actually living the events. Carle Dunn covered World War II and included attempts on Hitler's life; he detailed the French Resistance fighters; the battle of Britain; Japan's invasion of Southeast Asia; Ho Chi Minh's murderous rise to Communist power while killing tens of thousands of his own people who opposed him. He showed how the U.S. supplied this killer with weapons like artillery, vehicles, ammunition which a great deal of it was used against our soldiers when the U.S. got involved. He does all this with the lives of people from Switzerland, Germany, France, England and the United States. He even shows how the tribes who lived in the jungles became Special Operation Forces for the CIA. There is a bunch about helicopters and their part in the Vietnam War. Sometimes I could almost hear the rotor blades turning and bullets hitting the ships. I sure hope he writes another book. I will be first in line to get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest historical novels of VietNam, January 14, 2002
By T.R. Robinson (Iredell, Texas) - See all my reviews
This is a high tech book Tom Clancy would admire. It takes the reader from battle torn Europe of WW2 to the end of America's involvement in the war in Viet Nam. Told from the French,American, and Vietnamese points of view, the reader will have insights of the war from several perspectives.Any student of history, aviation buff, or avid reader will not be able to put this one down!
