TIME AFTER TIME is an ingenious otherworldly romance that will thrill fans of the sub-genre. The retelling of previous lives comes across as genuine (no easy feat), leaving readers to wonder if perhaps the author has found some scientific rationale behind reincarnation. The lead protagonists are a fabulous pair and the motivations and limitations of the angelic duo are well designed, propelling the story line forward. You might think, from the title, that this was a time travel. It's probably better classified as a paranormal. Really, it's more of a time commingling (Ms. Byerly may have invented a new subgenre). When Justin Lord recovers from an accident that almost cost him his life, he is determined to find his soul mate. He does not want to waste one more single day without her. The chance to reunite with his true soul mate yet again, and the hope for a future life together, is now his driving force. Justin is convinced that with the help of the memories from the twelve past incarnations he vividly recalls after the accident, he will be able to win her heart for a thirteenth time; but Justin is making one serious mistake that could cost him his chance to reunite with her in this lifetime.

Alexa West has a hard time believing Justin Lord's allegations that he is her soul mate. After he literally "crashes" her engagement party, he tries to woo her by re-enacting the most unlikely scenarios from their alleged past lives together. Despite Justin's efforts, Alexa can not recall anything, but her attraction to Justin is undeniable, despite the fact that she is having doubts about his (and her own) sanity. Is Justin in love with her, or is he in love with his past lives memories?

"Time After Time" is a beautiful tale of eternal love, love that spans centuries and transcends time. It depicts the kind of love that many people dream of. For the true romantics in us, those of us who believe in such things as soul mates, this is a must read. For those of us who are a bit more on the skeptical side, it is still a very romantic tale worth reading, if only to enjoy the story and excellent characters. Ms. Byerly's story keeps the reader enthralled from beginning to end. Alexa and Justin are well developed characters and extremely appealing. Alexa is a little bit the reluctant heroine, but she does not end up tiring the reader with her self-doubts, as is the case with similar characters in other books. Marilynn Byerly's "Time After Time" is certainly a book I would recommend.
