Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Grab the kids and the picnic basket and load up the wagon for this colorful salute to the great American family hauler. Though the book covers American station wagons ranging from "depot hacks" of the 1920s to today's highly popular SUVs, the emphasis is on those fantastic automobiles that came into their own during the '50s and '60s. Some of the cars featured include beautiful woodys from all manufacturers, the Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari sport wagons, rare examples from Packard, the Studebaker Wagonaire, and the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. The wonderful images featured in this nostalgic, one-of-a-kind history include period color photography and print ads, as well as exclusive modern color photos of lovingly restored wagons.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Little ones to the BIG ones....., November 12, 2000
By Dennis R Simpson (Not at Toys R Us) - See all my reviews
If you like reading about the history of autos and like station wagons in particular, you will enjoy this book. It covers the normal wagons, woodies, the little ones and the big ones, plus some of the odd ball designs. One of the best I have found on station wagons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Work, April 14, 2003
By BK (Toronto, ON Canada) - See all my reviews
I found “Station Wagons” an excellent read. Very comprehensive and focused covering the birth of the wagon and its growing popularity to its last stand in the 90's and the death of the traditional wagon (a la Caprice & Roadmaster). This book focuses on the changing trends of the time and gives reasons to its rise and fall and perhaps rebirth as a cross-over. “Station Wagons” not only provides a wealth of information on specific models and industry changes, but also provides ample amounts of clear colour pictures (just check out the picture of the 70 Olds Vista Cruiser with the 442 and W30 performance option) and period ads. In all, a well-written book that was focused and clear covering the changing models and industry of a bygone era.
