From School Library Journal
Gr 4-6-A collection of 28 crafts for families to make while focusing on the story of Jesus's birth and the Christian spirit of the holiday. Several of the projects are ornaments or household decorations. Some can be given as gifts while others will simply serve as reminders of the real meaning of the season ("Glow-in-the-Dark Prayer Reminder," "Prayer Necklace," "Thank-You Note to God"). The materials lists and the instructions are illustrated in color and are clear and simple enough to be done independently by upper-elementary-grade children. Although a number of the projects are uninspired, there are a few ("Spoon Puppets," the "Three Kings Banner" that uses neckties for the kings' bodies) that offer youngsters a chance to use their imaginations. Sunday-school teachers and families looking for a religious focus for the holiday will find some worthwhile activities here.-G. C.
