Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 3-4-Dianne Feinstein, California Senator, is seen through her granddaughter's eyes, with one half of the book covering her professional activities and the other her grandmotherly interactions. The color photographs on every page are clear and bright and provide interesting glimpses of these behind-the-scenes aspects of life on Capitol Hill. However, the first-person voice gets to be a bit much, especially the commentary accompanying a photograph of the granddaughter as an infant during the 1992 Senate race. Photographs abound of grandmother/granddaughter explorations of San Francisco. Eight of nine tips for any readers who want to be senators are realistic, but the first one, "Work on a campaign," might not be practical for this book's audience.-Frances E. Millhouser, Chantilly Regional Library, VA

5.0 out of 5 stars Children and Government, May 23, 2000
By A Customer
This book is very appealing to all ages. My granddaughter who is 4 years old received it for an Easter gift. She loved the way it was presented. Short and to the point statements about the Senator's job. The pictures are interesting and make you want to read about this person and what she does.

This book encourages older children to look at our government and want to know more.

On the whole it makes a very important political position understandable and fun to read about through Eileen's eye.

I would recommend this book to ages 3 to 15.
