Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
Six weeks after high-school graduation, Cathy can’t seem to keep a job, but she excels at Advanced Doodling in this sequel to Cathy’s Book (2007). Her immortal boyfriend, Victor, is off trying to unlock the key to immortality. No job and no boyfriend leave Cathy with the time she so desperately needs to avoid Tsao, yet another immortal who proclaims his undying love for her and won’t take no for an answer; to get her identity back from Jewel, a clever and sneaky girl she met on a bus; to convince Jewel’s ex-convict brother, Denny, not to enlist in the army; to discover if her father really is dead by raiding the office of the drug-happy doctor who signed his death certificate; and to navigate the ups and downs of her friendship with Emma, young business maven extraordinaire. A wonderfully zany voice, loads of doodles, interactive features, and madcap antics that unfold at a breakneck pace—all  contribute to a reading experience that is just plain fun. 4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome..., July 9, 2009
By Sarah Woodard (Bremerton, WA) - See all my reviews
Six month ago, Cathy found out her boyfriend, Victor is an immortal. Now he has to work for Ancestor Lu, or Cathy will be killed. Her boyfriend'sfather Tsao is stalking her and keeps threatening her. That if she doesn't marry him, something will happen. Also, a few days ago, Jewel stole her idenity. Jewel is also hanging around Tsao, and that might cause her to die. Jewel's Brother Denny, is looking for his sister. All Cathy knows is that she needs to fix everything quickly.
Cathy is a very original character. Sometimes, she annoys me with her whining at times. About how everything , is affter her. Victor is also annoying at times, but most of the time, he is cool. I like Jewel and Denny. They were realistic and funny. The plot was pretty good. It wasn't predictable by any means. It was a very original book. I love the drawings and the packet of items relating to the story. It was a really cool effect to have as a reader, the writing could have been better, but I liked it. It was very fun and witty to read. This is a great book for those that don't read much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Interesting Episode On "The Cathy Show", June 5, 2009
It's been six months since Cathy found out her boyfriend Victor is immortal. Victor has disappeared, and Cathy has graduated high school while trying to avoid losing her job. But the mysteries are far from over. As Cathy searches for answers, she's discovering even more secrets. Secrets that will lead her to the truth behind her father's death. And someone might want to kill her for knowing the truth.

The main marketing promotion for this book is that, like the first, it has lot of "evidence" that complements the story. These include photos, drawings, transcripts, coins, clues, as well as websites and phone numbers that readers can call to interact with the story. While the evidence is interesting, focusing on that aspect of the book makes one lose the significance of the story.

Cathy's Key is a fast-paced, slightly supernatural mystery in its own right. Of course, although the main plot is resolved, many questions are still unanswered. The book as a whole feels like more of a small part of a much larger mystery. Readers will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series in the hope of resolving many of those questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars From J. Kaye's Book Blog, January 22, 2009
By J. Kaye Oldner (http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/) - See all my reviews
This is the second book in the Cathy's series.

Cathy is in St. Louis, Missouri. It's been six months since she'd discovered her boyfriend was immortal. She searches for answers to her father's death and finds a website on the internet. This an immortal fortune teller whom claims she can help Cathy find out if her father really died of heart attacked. The fortune teller's name is Auntie Joe. When Cathy met her Auntie Joe said that her father did not die of a heart attack. He was murdered. Then Auntie Joe said that if Tsao (her boyfriend, Victor's father and an immortal) could not marry her, he will kill her. After Auntie Joe told her about some things Cathy wanted to know, Cathy took a Greyhound Bus to San Francisco, her home. But, little did she know that it was the beginning of another crazy adventure through the immortal world.

Both this and the other book are written like a journal. There's artwork all through it. This series is a lot of fun and I can't wait for the next one to come out.
