Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Kelso, a columnist for the Austin American-Statesman, has toured the great state of Texas, discovering its many oddities. The several hundred descriptive entries, many accompanied by photographs, range from the world's smallest skyscraper (in Wichita Falls) to the Jacksonville Tomatofest to Paisano Pete, the world's largest roadrunner (in Fort Stockton). Items are grouped by rough geographical region. Not all the oddities of Austin are listed together, nor are all the attractions along a particular highway listed in the order in which a tourist would encounter them. This makes the book more useful as a celebration of Texas culture than as a tour guide. Recommended for specialized collections, particularly those with an interest in Texas.

Review
"Texas Curiosities is proof that the Lone Star State is a mother lode of goofy stuff. Kelso shines as a guide to the weirdly wonderful."
