Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS In the first story, Maisy tries to come up with a unique dress-up idea for Tallulah's costume party. All of her friends have already arrived when, "In comes a zebra. Oh, it's Maisy!" In the second title, the endearing white mouse gathers the ingredients she needs and makes gingerbread cookies. As she's cleaning up the dishes, two friends arrive "Just in time for an afternoon snack." The simple texts and bright illustrations done in primary colors make these offerings appropriate for very young audiences. Good choices for laptime, but also suited to sharing in small group settings. Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for one-year-olds!, March 27, 2000
By A Customer
I've read this book so many times to my 15-month-old, I can recite it from memory! He started going nuts for it around the time he turned one; that's when he wanted a little more of a story line. This book and the other three in the group (Maisy's Bedtime, Maisy Dresses Up, and Maisy's Pool) are one step up from the one-picture-and-one-word per page kinds of books for babies, but not so high up that they start having way too much text per page. A typical page in this book is "Maisy puts the cookies in the oven." Just one simple sentence and one wonderful bright Lucy Cousins illustration per page-spread; ten page-spreads total.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly engaging!, October 16, 2000
All the Maisy books are wonderful, and this is no exception. The text is simple and straightforward, but the illustrations are where the book really shines. Bold and bright, they are attractive to everyone from the youngest child to adults. My 2-year-old daughter asks for her Maisy books again and again, and currently this and "Count with Maisy" are her favorites. In this book Maisy bakes cookies in simple steps (including licking the bowl!) and then Charley and Tallulah stop by just in time to have a cookie shaped just like them. It's so much fun it makes it easy to read it again and again when your child asks for the same book every night!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drops toy and pays attention, November 29, 2003
By Liz Wittholt (Orlando, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
My little one was read her first Maisy book at 3 months of age and was delighted. Now she is 5 months old and would drop her toy and look up when I start the book by saying "Maisy makes...."
She recognizes the name and gives me a toothless smile while her legs are kicking of excitement. She loves the big black letters and more the bold colorful pictures. She seems to anticipate when I turn the page. All of Maisy's books are short and cute. In my opinion they are the perfect length for an infant's attention span. We hope you enjoy the book as much as we do!!:)
