Product Description

All Beth Gallatin has really wanted out of life is to settle down in one town, with one man, and raise a family. But with her father's roaming ways, she's always been denied that dream; instead, she found solace in reading romantic books. With her father's passing, she can, for the first time, dare to claim the rugged Montana frontier as her home. Nick Lassiter has loved Beth since she first came to town, but she's always seemed to think of him more as a brother. Just when he finally gets Beth to consider him, however, a challenger threatens the affection growing between them. But neither Nick nor Beth is prepared when they must face the consequences of Nick's complicated past. As a past fraught with unwise choices and guilt invades their world, can Nick and Beth find a love that will last forever?

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of Romance and plenty of Intrigue, March 15, 2009

Bethany or Beth, rather, is definitely the romantic one of the Gallatin sisters. In book #2 of the series we get to hear her story. As a reader, on could easily understand and appreciate this novel without having read the first book. Yet, the first book is Gwen, the eldest sister's story, and understanding her is easier if you know her background more fully.

The only qualm I have with this book is the way that it ended, I have many unanswered questions and feel quite left in my pondering. It is not necessarily bad, and it definitely makes me even more so eager for the third book, where I am sure we will hear Lacy's story, but I do despise be left to wonder.

Beth is full about romance and all she wants is her own. Then with the confusion of Mr. Adrian Murphy of the railroad company and neighbor Nicholas Lassiter, she is unsure of what she really wants. Through out the story she dives into her dime romance novels seeking answers. She even finds her way into more novels than in time for reading the Bible and that was a part of her with some guilt that I could easily relate to.

This story is definitely not lacking on romance, for Beth as well as for other characters as well. There are pregnancies with babies and losses. There are crimes with passion and purpose. People are coming in and moving out and with each page you never know what to expect next. The world of the Gallatin County Gallatin sisters is changing rapidly and as a reader you will absolutely thirst for what is next. After reading this book, if you missed the first, you'll definitely want to go back as well as look for the third to come later this year (2009).

4.0 out of 5 stars an okay sequel, April 3, 2009
"A Love to Last Forever" is the 2nd book in the Brides of Gallatin County series by Tracie Peterson. I found it to be an okay sequel to the first book.

Beth Gallatin has always wanted someone to love, a home, and family. However because of her father's roaming ways, she found her solace in romance novels. But with the passing of her father, Beth finally has the chance to find what she has always wanted. Nick Lassiter has loved Beth ever since she moved to town. Beth never gave a second glance to Nick since she felt their relationship was more brother-sisterly. However, as days go on, Beth begins to think of Nick in a different light. But the unexpected arrival of someone from Nick's past may threaten the bond that they have...

Meh. That's what I have to say about this book. Yes, I enjoyed it and the setting of the story was done well. However, I found most of the characters to be annoying. Lacy is the only character I find remotely interesting. I didn't like Beth complaints about not wanting to move either. Thankfully, that got resolved. However the book then ends rather abrubtly. I know the story will continue in the 3rd book with Lacy's story, but I felt that it was an odd place to stop the book. On the plus side, I found that the mishaps in the book made for a good plot and showed character growth in many of the characters whether it be Beth, Nick, Simon, and even Ellie.

Overall, I found the book to be an okay read. I did enjoy it since I love Tracie Peterson and I would reccommend it if you are a fan. I'm just hoping that Lacy's story in "A Dream to Call my Own" is better. Hopefully it is since she is my favorite character. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read but nothing really special, July 23, 2009

This book continues the story of the Gallatin sisters and this book focus on Beth, the sister with the romantic dreams and wishes. She's an avid reader of dime store novels and seeks to find that storybook romance in her real life. Unfortunately for her, it's not as easy as for her to find true love as it is for the heroines in her books. Beth is the type of character I'm not really too fond of in books. I really don't like heroines that can't make up their minds about what they want. It's ok to be have goals and hope to attain them one day, but I despise wishy-washy folks. I did though enjoy reading about Beth's adventures with her sisters. It's nice to read about families that are still close even when they are adults. The historical bits are fun to read, and I still like reading about how they are running the house as a stop for travelers.

The romance in this book is very much there although slightly rushed. I thought the wedding in this book came rather abruptly, it seemed like it came out of nowhere. Obviously the signs were all there, but I just thought there would be more build up and growth of a relationship. The biggest thing that really bugged me about the book was the fact that the sisters did the whole laudanum trick again, this time on an entire saloon. I honestly cannot believe that they did not learn from their previous time doing this with their now brother-in-law, that this is very dangerous. It's played off for laughs but I just can't believe that they thought this was a smart idea. To be honest the whole book I felt sorta lackluster while reading it. I enjoyed it, as I always do Tracie's books. It was just that with this book, I felt that everything in the story has been written before in other books. There wasn't really anything that stood out to me to make this one special. Perhaps my problem is that since I've read all of Tracie's books, I can easily spot when a storyline gets reused. For a new fan, this won't be a problem and it is a very enjoyable book. Hopefully the third book in the series will be a little better for me.
