5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, October 14, 2001
By "zaine@anova.org" (Kansas City, MO USA) - See all my reviews
When Walkenbach published the first version of this title, I read it cover to cover in a week, impressed with the scope and depth therein. Now, in the 2002 version, he has taken reader feedback and enhanced several chapters, along with making the layout even easier to read. He not only explains formulas in a clear and concise way, but with the book comes a CD that gives you the .PDF version for my laptop. Also, the author's website also provides a whole other world of Excel knowledge and links.

Sprinkled liberally throughout the book are tips, tricks, warnings for advanced techniques. And Walkenbach is not afraid to criticize Microsoft for not making the software's statistical features more robust and its worksheet size larger. Take note Microsoft.

In all, Walkenbach has the rare ability to take complex things and explain them simply. As a result, I bought two copies of this title for my office staff to read and reference, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but still user-friendly, November 27, 2002
By Walter Reade (Appleton, WI United States) - See all my reviews
If you were to have only one Excel book in your library, this would be it! I have been using Excel for years, and have learned more from this book that anywhere else. Walkenbach takes the reader from the basics of using formulas all to way to some ultra-advanced formula usage. Most likely, if Excel can do it with a formula, this book will teach show you how. This is a *must have* book for anyone who uses Excel on a regular basis.

For those who want to become a serious Excel power user, I recommend "Excel 2002 Power Programming with VBA" by the same author. While this book contains some overlapping material, it quickly moves on to teach you how to do some pretty exciting stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Won 8-figure international deal with this book!, August 20, 2002
By A Customer
Practical application in minutes! Finally after trying 3 other..."Excel" books I purchased this one, skimmed it and found a ton of useful formulas; grabbed a few and sharpened up a new, international, project proposal to our customer. The book makes it simple to find what you need rapidly. The CDROM includes a PDF copy of the book so you can "take it with you" on your laptop without lugging the text around the globe. Very specific examples; a multitude of professional applications. Recommended for anyone like myself who strives to "work smarter, not harder". I suspected I could do better, and was pleasantly surprised that MSEXCEL2002 had so much more functionality to offer me RIGHT NOW without attending any class or turning myself into a Programmer/Developer. It's surprisingly readable, well organized and applicable in minutes. I hate working with numbers, and yet - this text turned it into a creative process that literally pays off AND I am proud of my work!
