From School Library Journal
Grade 6-9-From his beginnings as a railroad worker to his impassioned speeches in favor of government-controlled industry and fair pay, Debs's dedication to the cause of the working class was tireless. He campaigned numerous times for the presidency on the socialist ticket, and was imprisoned for speaking out against U.S. involvement in World War I. This chronological biography details both his failures and successes as a leader. Black-and-white photos appear throughout. Although the research is basically sound, the writing is stilted and dry, conveying none of the man's passion for his life's work.
