Editorial Reviews

Review

My overall impression to this book is that it will serve a great need in Early Childhood Education. In addition to it being good childcare practice, producing written documents with accurate observations is especially important for some grant-funded childcare programs and this book makes that process for the childcare provider easier and more understandable.

My overall impression of the latest edition is favorable. The strengths include the concise, bulleted format with easy to access age/stage information, learning activities for practitioners, developmental alerts, and the expansion of coverage to include 9-12 years old.

The topics are presented in the correct order for developmental stages, and the chapters cover everything that is relevant to early childhood development. I think that the authors have covered the necessary material. This book would work in my course as I teach students about development from conception until middle childhood. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Developmental Profile Overview, January 5, 2007

An easy read... The information is quite familiar, if you have read other materials on health, safety, development, and nutrition issues for young children. The enclosed CD-ROM provides real and practical examples of classroom settings, setup, and activities--based on age.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful information, March 19, 2006
By Ry's Momma (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews
Although this book is a textbook I purchased it as a new parent for use as a guide to my daughter's development. While it does contain a great deal of useful information it doesn't go into significant detail about any particular phase of development but rather gives an overview of each stage, hitting the highlights. Nonetheless I would buy it again and think it was a good investment.
