Review
My overall impression to this book is that it will serve a great need in Early Childhood Education. In addition to it being good childcare practice, producing written documents with accurate observations is especially important for some grant-funded childcare programs and this book makes that process for the childcare provider easier and more understandable.
My overall impression of the latest edition is favorable. The strengths include the concise, bulleted format with easy to access age/stage information, learning activities for practitioners, developmental alerts, and the expansion of coverage to include 9-12 years old.
The topics are presented in the correct order for developmental stages, and the chapters cover everything that is relevant to early childhood development. I think that the authors have covered the necessary material. This book would work in my course as I teach students about development from conception until middle childhood.
